Fort Collins, CO (Sports Network) - Tim Jefferson threw for 111 yards and a pair of touchdowns, as the Air Force Falcons got back on track with a 34-16 win over the Colorado State Rams in a Mountain West Conference bout at Hughes Stadium in Fort Collins.
Jefferson completed 7-of-12 pass attempts and added 35 yards on the ground for Air Force (5-4, 4-2 MWC), which snapped a two-game slide. Jared Tew led the team with 87 yards on 20 carries, while Asher Clark added 75 yards on 10 totes.
Leonard Mason had 95 rushing yards on 19 carries for the Rams (3-6, 0-5), as they dropped their sixth straight outing. Quarterback Grant Stucker contributed 32 yards and a touchdown on the ground, but he threw for just 49 yards and an interception.
The Falcons opened the scoring midway through the first quarter, when Jefferson threw an eight-yard touchdown pass to Kyle Halderman. Air Force added to its lead late in the frame with a six-yard touchdown scamper by Tew.
Midway through the second quarter, CSU got on the board behind a 22-yard field goal from Ben DeLine. The Rams made things even more interesting with a 13- yard touchdown run by Stucker with just under two minutes left.
Air Force, though, took a 17-10 lead to the intermission, as Erik Soderberg hit a 50-yard field goal on the last play.
Just over three minutes into the second half, Jefferson hooked up with Jonathan Warzeka on a 24-yard scoring strike. Halderman than posted his second score of the day, this one coming on a 14-yard run late in the third period.
Soderberg connected on a 30-yard field goal midway through the fourth quarter to give Air Force a 34-10 advantage.
The Rams tacked on a meaningless late touchdown, as Lou Greenwood scored on a two-yard run.
Air Force gained 382 yards of total offense, including 271 rushing, while holding CSU to 267 yards on the day.
