Final Score: Toledo 47, Eastern Michigan 21
Toledo, OH (Sports Network) - DaJuane Collins and David Pasquale both ran for a pair of touchdowns as the Toledo Rockets posted a 47-21 win over the Eastern Michigan Eagles in Mid-American Conference action at the Glass Bowl.
Collins carried the ball 20 times for 144 yards in the victory for the Rockets (5-6, 3-4 MAC), while Pasquale logged just 44 yards on 10 attempts for the home team. Also contributing to the offense for Toledo was Morgan Williams who gained a game-high 155 yards and scored once on 11 carries. Quarterback Austin Dantin converted 10-of-11 passes for 116 yards as well.
The Eagles (0-11, 0-7) were paced by Alex Gillett who hit on 13-of-25 passes for 195 yards and two scores, but was also sacked two times and picked off twice in yet another losing effort for EMU.
Toledo kicker Alex Steigerwald put the home team on the board first with a 33- yard field goal, accounting for the only points of the first quarter. A 15- yard TD run by Pasquale and a fumble recovery for a touchdown by Alex Johnson pushed the Rockets lead to 16-0 after a failed PAT on the first TD of the night.
Gillett struck quickly for EMU with a 48-yard TD strike to Tyrone Burke, cutting the deficit to 16-7.
Later in the second quarter Collins raced 55 yards for a Toledo touchdown and then Steigerwald knocked through a 32-yard field goal in the waning moments of the half. But in between those two scoring plays for the Rockets, Gillett hooked up with Kinsman Thomas for a 29-yard TD pass for the Eagles, which left the Rockets with a 26-14 advantage at the break.
Pasquale's six-yard TD run in the third frame boosted the score to 33-14, although Eastern Michigan managed to respond with a one-yard TD run by Dwayne Priest.
Ahead by a 33-21 count heading into the final period, the Rockets left no doubt with touchdown runs of 15 yards for Williams and a four-yard effort credited to Collins to provide Toledo with the easy 26-point win.
Toledo finished the night with 452 yards of total offense and controlled the ball for more than 36 minutes by converting 9-of-15 on third-down plays and gaining 330 yards on the ground alone.
The Eagles continue to sport the third-longest losing streak in the nation, now stretching to 11 games. The last victory for the squad was a 56-52 decision in late November of last year.
