Final Score: Ohio 27, Buffalo 24
Buffalo, NY (Sports Network) - Theo Scott completed 22-of-28 passes for 221 yards, leading Ohio to a 27-24 win over Buffalo in a game between two Mid- American Conference teams that came down to the wire.
LaVon Brazill caught 10 of those passes for 99 yards and added a 48-yard passing touchdown in the win for Ohio (7-3, 5-1 MAC), which is just a half- game out of first place in the East Divsion, behind only Temple, which the Bobcats play in the final week of the season.
Chris Garrett added 68 yards rushing on 17 carries, while Tyler Tettleton and Vince Davidson each scored on the ground in the win.
Zach Maynard threw for 230 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions on 17- of-36 passing for Buffalo (3-7, 1-5), which has lost three straight games. Naaman Roosevelt was the main target for Maynard, catching eight passes for 165 yards and three touchdowns in defeat.
Tied at 24 midway through the fourth quarter, Ohio moved in front on a 12-play drive that took 5 1/2 minutes off the clock. The series stalled at the Buffalo 30-yard line, and Matt Weller hit the go-ahead 47-yard field goal with 1:25 to play.
The Bulls had a chance to tie the game or score the game-winning touchdown, driving down to the Ohio 33 after a 20-yard completion to Brett Hamlin. However, Maynard's pass on 3rd-and-10 was intercepted by Ohio's Shannon Ballard to end the game.
On Ohio's second possession of the game, Tettleton finished off a seven-play, 69-yard drive with a nine-yard touchdown run to give the Bobcats the early edge.
The lead was short-lived, however, as Buffalo found the end zone on its next offensive play. From the Bulls' 24-yard line, Jerry Davis found Roosevelt for a 76-yard scoring play to tie the game with three minutes left in the first quarter.
Ohio went back in front quickly on Davidson's 10-yard scoring run two offense plays later. The score was aided by good field position, starting at the Bobcats' 42, and a 48-yard passing play from Scott to Taylor Price.
The Bobcats padded their lead on the first play of the second quarter. Brazill, normally a wide receiver, served as the passer on this play, hitting Terrence McCrae for a 47-yard play down to the one-yard line, where he fumbled. Fortunately for McCrae, he was able to recover the ball in the end zone for a touchdown and a 21-7 lead.
Buffalo came fighting back at the end of the first half, as Maynard hit Roosevelt for a 21-yard touchdown with just three seconds remaining in the quarter to make it a seven-point game at halftime.
Weller hit a 46-yard field goal early in the third quarter for Ohio to make it a 10-point game, but the Bulls responded with Roosevelt's third touchdown of the game -- a 22-yard reception -- to cut the team's deficit to 24-21.
With seven minutes remaining in the game, Buffalo completed the comeback on A.J. Principe's 26-yard field goal for a 24-24 score.
