NCAA Game Summary - Southern Miss at Marshall

Huntington, WV (Sports Network) - Martevious Young threw for 191 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Southern Miss Golden Eagles to a 27-20 victory over the Marshall Thundering Herd in Conference USA action.

Damion Fletcher made three catches for 63 yards and a touchdown for Southern Miss (6-4, 4-2 C-USA).

Antavious Wilson made 13 catches for 153 yards in defeat for Marshall (5-5, 3-3).

The only points of the first quarter came on a seven-yard touchdown run by Tory Harrison of Southern Miss.

Marshall cut its deficit to 7-3 with a 27-yard field goal by Craig Ratanamorn early in the second quarter, and the Thundering Herd then took a 10-7 edge on a 29-yard touchdown pass from Brian Anderson to Aaron Dobson.

After Dobson's touchdown, Tracey Lampley returned the ensuing kickoff 93 yards for a touchdown to give the Golden Eagles a 14-10 advantage.

The Thundering Herd managed a 46-yard Ratanamorn field goal before intermission, cutting their deficit to 14-13.

Southern Miss registered the only points of the third quarter on a 39-yard touchdown pass from Young to Fletcher. The extra point attempt was blocked, however, and the Golden Eagles led 20-13.

With 9:47 remaining in the fourth quarter, Marshall tied the score at 20-20 on a one-yard touchdown run by Terrell Edwards-Maye.

The game-winning touchdown for Southern Miss came with just under seven minutes remaining in the game, as Young tossed a 36-yard strike to DeAndre Brown to bring the score to its final of 27-20.
