Monroe, LA (Sports Network) - Frank Goodin scored a touchdown and ended with 97 yards on 27 carries, as the UL-Monroe Warhawks hung on for a 16-10 victory over Sun Belt Conference foe Arkansas State in rainy conditions.
Trey Revell passed for 83 yards with a touchdown and an interception on 3-of-8 tosses before leaving with an injured thumb on his throwing hand for UL-Monroe (4-2, 3-0 Sun Belt). Cody Wells finished the game behind center, connecting on 5-of-9 throws for 67 yards.
The Warhawks have won three in a row.
Corey Leonard passed for 234 yards on 20-of-39 attempts but was picked off twice. The Red Wolves (1-4, 0-2) quarterback did throw a touchdown to Brandon Thompkins, who finished with 90 yards on five catches in the team's fourth straight loss.
Revell connected with LaGregory Sapp for a 48-yard score on the second play from scrimmage.
Radi Jabour's 20-yard field goal near the end of the first quarter made it 10-0, and Luther Ambrose's 39-yard reception set up Goodin's one-yard plunge over the goal line. The extra point was blocked, making it 16-0 at the break.
Arkansas State struck immediately after halftime, as Thompkins broke a tackle near the goal line and went in for a 14-yard TD reception.
Ryan Wilbourn booted a 49-yarder to make it a one-possession game with under three minutes to go in the third quarter.
Jabour had a 22-yard chip shot bank off the left upright with 4:49 remaining, giving the visitors one last chance.
The Wolves managed to work their way into the red zone with a minute left. However, their 16th penalty of the game -- an illegal substitution -- moved them back to the UL-Monroe 25-yard line before back-to-back sacks by Troy Evans sealed the game's outcome.
