Piscataway, NJ (Sports Network) - Tony Pike threw for 362 yards, three touchdowns and an interception on 27-of-34 passing to lead the Cincinnati Bearcats in a 47-15 rout of Rutgers.
Jacob Ramsey totaled 77 yards on eight carries and had a receiving TD for Cincinnati (1-0, 1-0 Big East), which won the Big East title last season. Travis Kelce had a pair of rushing scores, while Isaiah Pead had 47 yards and a TD on eight carries and also had a receiving score. Mardy Gilyard gained 89 yards and a touchdown on eight receptions.
Tom Savage threw for 135 yards and a TD on 15-of-23 completions for the Scarlet Knights (0-1, 0-1), who finished 2008 at 8-5 including a 29-23 triumph over NC State in the Papajohns.com bowl. Mohamed Sanu garnered 101 yards on 10 catches in the setback. Shamar Graves had a touchdown catch and Joe Martinek gained 54 yards and a score on 15 touches.
Pead had a two-yard touchdown run and Martinek countered with a four-yard jaunt to make it 7-7 heading into the second stanza.
Jacob Rogers' 30-yard field goal 1:12 into the second quarter gave Cincy a 10-7 edge. Later in the second, Kelce ran in a four-yard keeper to cap a six- play, 63-yard drive and make it 17-7.
Pike had two more TD passes -- one for five yards to Gilyard and the other for 41 yards to Pead -- to make it 31-7 at the break.
Kelce's two-yard TD run on the Bearcats opening possession of the second half capped a 92-yard, 11-play drive to assume a 38-7 lead midway through the third. Pike's one-yard TD to Ramsey made it a 38-point difference heading to the fourth.
Savage hit Graves for a seven-yard TD pass and, after the two-point conversion, it was 45-15. A Cincy safety later in the fourth accounted for the final margin.
