Final Score: North Carolina 19, Duke 6
Chapel Hill, NC (Sports Network) - Casey Barth knocked through four field goals to lead the North Carolina Tar Heels to a 19-6 win against the Duke Blue Devils in ACC play at Kenan Memorial Stadium.
In addition to the efforts of Barth, North Carolina (6-3, 2-3 ACC) also got some help from Ryan Houston who carried the ball 37 times for a game-high 164 yards, while T.J. Yates converted 16-of-28 passes for 119 yards and an interception.
The Blue Devils (5-4, 3-2) were paced by Thaddeus Lewis who passed for 113 yards on 16-of-33, but was picked off once and sacked three times as the team had a three-game win streak snapped.
UNC scored the first points of the contest on a 40-yard field goal by Barth at the 11:25 mark of the first quarter.
Duke kicker Nick Maggio had successful conversions of 23 and 26 yards in the first half as well, but in between Barth knocked through a 29-yard effort to tie the score at the break, 6-6.
Barth added field goals of 41 and 33 yards in the third and fourth quarters, respectively, while Jheranie Boyd accounted for the only touchdown of the afternoon on a three-yard run in the final frame, making it a little easier for the Heels to enjoy the 13-point win, the team's second in as many games.
Duke finished the day with a mere 12 rushing yards, far below the squad's 75.3 ypg on the ground coming into the week. Duke was fifth in the nation in passing with 325.1 ypg, tops in the ACC, but the squad was held to just 113 yards and a feeble 125 yards of total offense.
