(Saturday, October 3rd) Final Score: Stanford 24, UCLA 16 Stanford, CA (Sports Network) - Toby Gerhart ran for 134 yards and three touchdowns as the Stanford Cardinal remained alone at the top of the Pac-10 with a 24-16 win over the UCLA Bruins at Stanford Stadium. Gerhart scored on runs of one, five, and 10 yards for the Cardinal (4-1, 3-0 Pac-10) which has won three straight. Cardinal quarterback Andrew Luck was 14- of-20 through the air for 198 yards. Ryan Whalen caught six balls for 118 yards. Kevin Craft, playing in place of the injured Kevin Prince, was 22-of-34 for 204 yards for the Bruins (3-1, 0-1). Jonathan Franklin ran for 58 yards and one touchdown. UCLA started the scoring midway through the first quarter when Kai Forbath booted a 29-yard field goal. The Cardinal got on the board late in the period when Gerhart scored from five yards out to cap an 80-yard march. Gerhart added his second touchdown of the day early in the second quarter on a 10-yard run to give his team a 14-3 advantage. Forbath cut the Stanford lead to 14-6 with a 34-yard field goal on the final play of the first half. Gerhart extended Stanford's lead to 21-3 on a one-yard run five minutes into the third quarter. Nate Whitaker followed up with a 29-yard field goal that gave the Cardinal a 24-6 advantage after three periods. The Bruins landed in the end zone four minutes into the fourth quarter when Franklin scored from a yard out. The game ended just as it began as Forbath capped the day's scoring with a 35-yard field goal to leave the visitors with the eight-point setback.
