NCAA Game Summary - Miami-Ohio at Northwestern

(Saturday, October 10th)

Final Score: Northwestern 16, Miami-Ohio 6

Evanston, IL (Sports Network) - Mike Kafka threw for 191 yards and also had two rushing touchdowns, as the Northwestern Wildcats stifled the Miami-Ohio RedHawks, 16-6, in a non-conference tilt at Ryan Field.

The Northwestern (4-2) defense was the real story, as the Wildcats notched four takeaways and seven sacks.

Miami (0-6) quarterback Zac Dysert threw for 176 yards and rushed for a team- high 59 yards, but he was also intercepted three times in the loss.

The Wildcats got the ball first, but their opening drive stalled and Stefan Demos kicked a 46-yard field goal to give NU an early 3-0 lead.

The Wildcats pushed their lead to 10-0 late in the opening quarter, when Kafka capped a 12-play, 73-yard drive with a six-yard touchdown scamper.

Kafka scored again on a one-yard run at the 1:18 mark of the third quarter to give NU a 16-0 lead.

Miami avoided the shutout with a 23-yard scoring strike from Dysert to Andrew Cruse with 1:19 to play.

The Wildcats defense forced six turnovers in last week's win over Purdue. In the first half of today's game, they had five sacks and were able to hold Miami to 113 yards of total offense.
