Minneapolis, MN (Sports Network) - DeLeon Eskridge carried the ball seven times for 53 yards and a score to lift the Minnesota Gophers to a 20-13 win over the Air Force Falcons in a non-conference clash at new TCF Bank Stadium.
Adam Weber guided the Gophers (2-0) by completing 20-of-29 pass attempts for 219 yards, while Eric Decker was his favorite target with 10 catches for 113 yards.
The Falcons (1-1) were paced by Tim Jefferson, who completed 10-of-17 pass attempts for 125 yards and a touchdown. He also carries the ball 17 times for 35 yards, helping Air Force roll up 261 yards on the ground.
Minnesota took the first lead of the game late in the first quarter on a 34- yard field goal by Eric Ellestad.
Air Force tied the contest late in the second quarter behind a 20-yard field goal by Erik Soderberg.
The Falcons took a 10-3 lead in the closing minutes of the third quarter, when Jefferson hooked up with Kevin Fogler from 37 yards out for the score.
The Gophers grabbed control of the contest in the final stanza, beginning with a seven-yard touchdown trot by Eskridge to tie the game 10-10.
Minutes later, the Minnesota defense gave its team the lead, as Nate Triplett picked up a fumble and returned it 51 yards for the score.
Ellestad extended Minnesota's lead to 20-10 with a 39-yard field goal late in the fourth quarter.
Air Force added a 31-yard field goal by Soderberg late in the fourth quarter, but it was not enough, as Minnesota held on for a 20-13 victory.
Despite the score, Air Force controlled the contest and outgained Minnesota 386-327 on the night.
This was the first game for the Gophers in their new arena, TCF Bank Stadium.
