Lafayette, LA (Sports Network) - Tyrell Fenroy ran for 194 yards and three touchdowns to lead the UL-Lafayette Ragin' Cajuns to a 44-27 victory over the Kent State Golden Flashes in non-conference action.
Michael Desormeaux threw for 253 yards and one touchdown for UL-Lafayette (1-2), and the signal caller also rushed for 150 yards and a score.
Julian Edelman carried the ball 19 times for 136 yards and two touchdowns in the loss for Kent State (1-3).
Edelman actually gave Kent State a 7-0 lead early in the first quarter on an 11-yard touchdown run.
UL-Lafayette cut its deficit to 7-3 on a 20-yard field goal by Drew Edmiston, and the Cajuns then grabbed a 10-7 advantage on a five-yard touchdown run by Fenroy in the final minute of the opening period.
The Golden Flashes went back ahead by a 14-10 score on a 42-yard touchdown pass from Edelman to Shawn Bayes with just under six minutes left in the first half.
UL-Lafayette managed to score two touchdowns in a span of less than two minutes to take a 23-14 lead into intermission. Desormeaux reached the end zone on a five-yard run, and Fenroy exploded for a 69-yard scoring scamper.
Kent State refused to go away, as it cut its deficit to 23-21 early in the third quarter on a six-yard touchdown run by Edelman.
At that point, the Ragin' Cajuns put the game out of reach with three unanswered touchdowns. Desormeaux connected with Ladarius Green for a 55-yard scoring pass, and Jason Chery reached the end zone on a 47-yard run. Then, early in the fourth quarter, Fenroy posted his third touchdown of the day on a one-yard plunge.
Anthony Magazu saw some action under center for the Golden Flashes, and while he only completed 2-of-7 passes, one connection was an 81-yard touchdown strike to Alan Vanderink. That long pass play brought the score to its final of 44-27.
UL-Lafayette finished the contest with 667 total yards.
