(Saturday, November 22nd) Final Score: Ohio University 49, Akron 42 Athens, OH (Sports Network) - Boo Jackson threw for 22 yards and five touchdowns, including the game-winner with 32 seconds remaining, as the Ohio University Bobcats rallied for a 49-42 victory over the Akron Zips in a Mid- American Conference tussle at Peden Stadium. Jackson completed 20-of-28 pass attempts and gained 52 yards on the ground to pace Ohio (3-8, 2-5 MAC) in the win. Taylor Price grabbed eight passes for 100 yards and three scores. Chris Jacquemain threw for 235 yards and a touchdown for Akron (5-6, 3-4), while Dennis Kennedy added 123 yards and scored four touchdowns on the ground. Deryn Bowser had seven catches for 118 yards and a score in the loss. Akron struck first in this one, as Kennedy scored on a three-yard run at the 8:01 mark of the first quarter. OU responded later in the frame with a 66-yard punt return by LaVon Brazill. The Bobcats took a 14-7 lead with 11:19 remaining in the second quarter, following a four-yard toss from Jackson to Price. A nine-yard Jacquemain run midway through the frame tied the score at 14. The Bobcats reclaimed their lead late at the 2:45 mark of the second quarter on a 23-yard pass from Jackson to David Carter. Akron responded on the third play of the ensuing possession, as Jacquemain found Bowser for a 60-yard touchdown pass. Jackson and Price connected again late in the frame on a 19-yard scoring strike to give OU a 28-21 lead. Those two hooked up again for a 25-yard touchdown pass midway through the third quarter to extend OU's lead to 35-21. Akron responded on the first play of the fourth quarter with a one-yard touchdown plunge by Kennedy. But OU's Chris Garrett returned the ensuing kickoff 97 yards for a score to push the Bobcats' lead to 42-28. Kennedy brought the Zips back into the game with touchdown runs of one and two yards, knotting the score at 42 apiece with 2:12 to play. But OU took the ball and drove 74 yards in 1:40, setting up Jackson's game- winning pass to Carter in the final seconds. 11/22 22:42:35 ET |
