Toledo, OH (Sports Network) - MiQuale Lewis ran for 157 yards and a pair of touchdowns to lead the Ball State Cardinals to a 31-0 victory against the Toledo Rockets in Mid-American Conference play at the Glass Bowl.
Lewis ran the ball 31 times for the Cardinals (6-0, 3-0 MAC) as they logged their sixth win in as many chances this season. Quarterback Nate Davis converted 18-of-30 passing for 242 yards in the decision as well.
Aaron Opelt hit on 21-of-31 passing for the Rockets (1-4, 1-1) as they lost their third in a row.
BSU began the scoring with a 22-yard field goal by Ian McGarvey in the first quarter, capping a 10-play, 74-yard drive that ate up more than five minutes on the clock. With a scoreless second frame the Cardinals maintained the 3-0 advantage at the break.
In the third quarter Davis made his way into the end zone on a one-yard run, followed by a three-yard scoring run by Lewis with just under four minutes remaining in the period.
Ahead 17-0, the Cardinals added a one-yard TD run by Lewis and a Cory Sykes 57-yard scoring scamper in the fourth to pick up the lopsided win on the road.
Toledo, which entered the week fifth in the conference and 44th in the nation with 174.5 ypg on the ground, was limited to just 14 yards on 19 attempts on the night.
With the win the Cardinals are off to their first 6-0 start since 1965. Back in 1965 the Cardinals ran off nine straight wins to begin the season.
