(Saturday, November 1st)

Final Score: Louisiana Tech 38, Fresno State 35

Ruston, LA (Sports Network) - Daniel Porter ran for a game-high 189 yards and scored twice to help lead the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs to a 38-35 win against the Fresno State Bulldogs in Western Athletic Conference play at Joe Aillet Stadium.

Porter finished the day with 20 carries for a LaTech (4-4, 2-2 WAC) squad that gained 280 yards on the ground overall. Quarterback Ross Jenkins converted 7- of-12 passing for another 88 yards and a score as well for a team that has won two of the last three outings.

Fresno State (5-3, 2-2) was paced by Tom Brandstater who exploded for 296 yards and four touchdowns on 23-of-38 passing as the squad had a two-game win streak snapped.

Porter kicked off the day's scoring with a one-yard touchdown run in the first quarter, but FSU responded with a pair of scores, the first being a 13-yard pass from Brandstater to Seyi Ajirotutu.

Opening up the second quarter Rashad Evans streaked 56 yards with a punt return into the end zone for Fresno as well, making the score 14-7 in favor of the visitors.

Louisiana Tech's Phillip Livas returned the favor as it were when he collected a punt and stretched it into an 81-yard touchdown play of his own to knot the score at 14-14 at the 5:51 mark of the second quarter.

On the ensuing drive Bear Pascoe hooked up with Brandstater on a three-yard scoring play to give FSU a 21-14 edge at the break.

Early in the third LaTech's Patrick Jackson was on the receiving end of a 27- yard TD from Jenkins, locking the score at 21-21. Tech kicker Brad Oestriecher's 28-yard field goal then put the home team ahead once again.

Ajirotutu, who finished with seven receptions for a game-high 137 yards, posted his second touchdown of the day on a 33-yard pass from Brandstater, giving the lead back to Fresno.

The running game of LaTech then took over as both Jackson and Porter posted rushing touchdowns, the first a one-yard effort for the former and the other a 43-yard scamper for the latter.

With a 10-point lead Louisiana Tech played a bit soft in the final minute, allowing Fresno State to take the ball 67 yards in just 53 seconds as Pascoe again made his way into the end zone on a 10-yard play, but it was not enough as the hometown Bulldogs secured the three-point triumph.

Fresno State, which finished with a mere 63 yards rushing on 26 attempts, was 3-of-12 on third down.
