NCAA Game Summary - Fresno State at Utah State

Logan, UT (Sports Network) - Kevin Goessling nailed a 58-yard field goal as time expired to lead the Fresno State Bulldogs to a thrilling 30-28 victory over the Utah State Aggies in a Western Athletic Conference clash at Romney Stadium.

Tom Brandstater completed 25-of-36 pass attempts for 257 yards and a touchdown to pace Fresno State (5-2, 2-0 WAC). Lonyae Miller ran for 67 yards and a touchdown, while Ryan Matthews added 58 yards and a score on the ground.

Diondre Borel threw for 193 yards and a touchdown, while also leading Utah State (1-7, 1-3) with 74 yards on the ground. Marquis Butler added 55 yards and a touchdown on 13 carries.

The Aggies took an early 7-0 lead at the 8:57 mark of the first quarter, when Borel capped a 13-play, 75-yard drive with a three-yard touchdown run.

Two minutes later, the Bulldogs responded with a 19-yard touchdown run by Miller.

A Peter Caldwell 35-yard field goal gave the Aggies a 10-7 lead early in the second quarter.

Brandstater found Devon Wylie for a seven-yard scoring strike to reclaim the lead late in the period.

As time expired in the half, Caldwell hit a 20-yard field goal to bring Utah State to within one.

A four-yard run from Ryan Mathews midway through the third period extended the Fresno State advantage to 21-13.

Goessling extended the Bulldog lead with a 43-yard field goal midway through the final quarter.

Less than a minute later, Borel cut the deficit to three on a 20-yard toss to Xavier Bowman, and a two-point conversion run.

The back and forth continued, as Goessling kept Fresno State ahead with a 44- yard field goal with 3:25 to play.

The Aggies put together a 65-yard drive and took a 28-27 lead with less than a minute remaining, following a one-yard touchdown plunge from Butler.

But the Bulldogs were able to steal the victory as the clock ran down with Goessling's monster kick.

Fresno State was able to win despite having major problems stopping the Aggies ground game. Utah State finished with 206 rushing yards (5.3 ypc) as a team.
