NCAA Game Summary - Syracuse at West Virginia

Morgantown, WV (Sports Network) - Noel Devine ran for 188 yards and a touchdown and the West Virginia Mountaineers downed the Syracuse Orange, 17-6, in a Big East Conference clash at Milan Puskar Stadium in Morgantown.

Quarterback Jarrett Brown, starting in place of the injured Pat White, completed 14-of-20 pass attempts for 52 yards and a score, as WVU (4-2, 2-0 BE) defeated Syracuse for the seventh straight time.

Curtis Brinkley guided the Orange (1-5, 0-2) in defeat by rushing for 144 yards on 28 carries. Cameron Dantley hit on 24-of-40 tosses for 204 yards and an interception for Syracuse, which dropped its second straight game.

Syracuse opened the game's scoring with a 26-yard field goal by Patrick Shadle late in the first quarter. The kick capped a 16-play, 81-yard drive that took nearly nine minutes.

WVU got on the board midway way through the second quarter, when Brown tossed a 12-yard touchdown pass to Jock Sanders.

With just over a minute left before the half, Shadle hit a 53-yard field goal to make it a 7-6 game at the break.

Following a scoreless third quarter, Pat McAfee extended WVU's advantage to 10-6 with a 33-yard field goal early in the final period.

Devine put the finishing touches on the game for the Mountaineers, as he scampered 92 yards for a touchdown late in the final quarter.

Syracuse outgained WVU 346-268 in total yards, but the Mountaineers went for 216 yards on the ground compared to 139 by the Orange.
