Piscataway, NJ (Sports Network) - Tony Ciaravino's 42-yard field goal attempt with 1:09 remaining clanked off the right upright and the Rutgers Scarlet Knights survived the Connecticut Huskies for a 12-10 victory in Big East play.
Ciaravino missed three field goals for UConn (5-2, 1-1 BE), which dropped its second straight game. Donald Brown, who came into the game as the nation's leading rusher, toted 27 times for 107 yards in the loss. Quarterback Zach Frazer also turned in a solid effort, passing for 236 yards and a touchdown on 14-of-20 throws.
Kordell Young rushed for 80 yards and a touchdown on 28 carries for the Knights (2-5, 1-2), who earned their first win over a Football Bowl Subdivision program this season. Quarterback Mike Teel completed 17-of-30 pass attempts for 192 yards, while Kenny Britt made nine catches for 107 yards in the victory.
Tony Ciaravino hit a 19-yard field goal midway through the first quarter for UConn, but Rutgers responded late in the frame with an 18-yard boot by San San Te.
Following a scoreless second quarter, Rutgers took a 10-3 lead behind a six- yard touchdown run by Young early in the third period.
Rutgers made it a 12-3 game following a safety late in the third quarter.
Midway through the fourth quarter, Frazer threw a 47-yard touchdown pass to Kashif Moore for the Huskies. UConn had a chance to take the lead late in the game, but Ciaravino's field goal try with just over a minute left was no good.
Neither team turned the ball over and UConn even outgained Rutgers, 353-294, on the day.
