NCAA Game Summary - San Jose State at Stanford

Stanford, CA (Sports Network) - Toby Gerhart ran for a career-high 148 yards and a touchdown on 22 carries to lead the Stanford Cardinal to a 23-10 victory over the San Jose State Spartans in a non-league battle.

Tavita Pritchard completed just 13-of-28 passes for 159 yards with an interception for Stanford (2-2), but he did run for a score.

Kyle Reed threw for 165 yards on 23-of-26 passing in the loss for San Jose State (2-2).

Trailing 10-0 in the final minute of the first half, Pritchard plunged into the end zone from one yard out to narrow the gap.

Stanford took a 13-10 lead in the third quarter on a pair of Aaron Zagory field goals, a 37-yarder and a 52-yard kick.

Zagory hit yet another field goal with just under four minutes remaining in the fourth quarter, a 24-yard kick, that made the score 16-10 in favor of Stanford. The Cardinal then iced the victory with a two-yard touchdown run by Gerhart with nine seconds left on the game clock.

San Jose State scored the only points of the first quarter on a 39-yard field goal by Jared Strubeck.

Midway through the second quarter, the Spartans extended their lead to 10-0 on a four-yard touchdown run by Brandon Rutley. Unfortunately for San Jose State, it was held scoreless for the final 38 minutes of the contest.

Stanford limited San Jose State to 219 total yards in the clash, including 54 rushing yards. The Spartans had minus-24 total yards in the fourth quarter.
