NCAA Game Summary - Arizona at Stanford

Stanford, CA (Sports Network) - Toby Gerhart carried the ball 24 times for 116 yards and scored the game-winning touchdown with 25 seconds left in regulation, to lead the Stanford Cardinal to a 24-23 win over the Arizona Wildcats in a Pac-10 Conference showdown at Stanford Stadium.

Anthony Kimble also had a big day for the Cardinal (4-3, 3-1 Pac-10), turning 10 carries into 110 yards and a score. Starting Quarterback Tavita Pritchard was off to a hot start, completing 13-of-17 pass attempts for 113 yards and a score, but was forced to leave the game in the first half with an injury. Doug Baldwin was Pritchard's favorite target, hauling in five balls for 37 yards and a score.

The Wildcats (4-2, 2-1) were led by quarterback Willie Tuitama, who converted 22-of-34 passing attempts for 259 yards. Terrell Turner was Tuitama's main target, setting career highs in catches (10) and yards (175). Nic Grigsby led the Wildcat's ground attack turning 15 carries into 66 yards and a score.

Arizona got on the board first, when Jason Bondzio drilled a 19-yard field goal midway through the first quarter.

Stanford answered the call minutes later when Pritchard and Baldwin hooked up for a three-yard touchdown pass.

Grigsby gave the Wildcats a 10-7 lead in the second quarter when he rumbled off tackle for a 25-yard touchdown.

The Arizona defense extended the lead minutes later, when Nate Ness returned an interception 75 yards to pay dirt.

Stanford responded in the closing seconds of the first half, when Aaron Zagory nailed a 22-yard field goal to make it 17-10 at the half-way point.

The Cardinal scored the only points of the third quarter on a one-yard run from Kimble.

Arizona regained control of the game in the fourth quarter, as Bondzio drilled two consecutive field goals of 22 and 23 yards, giving the Wildcats a 23-17 lead.

Stanford fired back on its final drive of the game, as Gerhart capped off an incredible drive with a one-yard touchdown plunge to give the Cardinal a 24-23 win.

Stanford controlled the football with its powerful running game, as the team racked up a whopping 286 yards on the ground.
