The Spartans jumped out to a surprising lead early in the first quarter when Reed scored on a 12-yard run. However, the extra point was no good for San Jose State, leaving the Spartans with just a 6-0 lead.

The Cornhuskers wasted no time, however, as the team drove 86 yards on their next possession and used a three-yard touchdown run by Quentin Castille to take a 7-6 lead.

Nebraska's defense got involved in the scoring, as Ndamukong Suh returned an interception 49 yards, extending the Cornhuskers lead to 14-6.

The Spartans cut their deficit to 14-9 midway through the second frame when Jared Strubeck booted a 41-yard field goal.

After a scoreless third frame, the Spartans chipped at Nebraska's lead, using a 27-yard field goal by Strubeck early in the fourth quarter.

However, Niles Paul return the ensuing kick off 85 yards to push the Cornhuskers lead to 21-12.

A 14-yard touchdown run by Helu Jr. and a two-yard touchdown scamper by Lucky blew this contest wide open, as Nebraska went on to collect a convincing, 35-12 victory.
