Ames, IA (Sports Network) - Chase Daniel completed 32-of-40 passes for 328 yards and two touchdowns, as 12th-ranked Missouri defeated Iowa State, 52-20, to clinch the Big 12 North title and a spot in the conference championship game.
Jeremy Maclin had eight catches for 103 yards and a touchdown, and Jimmy Jackson scored twice on the ground for Missouri (9-2, 5-2 Big 12), while Derrick Washington carried the ball 11 times for 128 yards and a pair of scores.
"We have a long way to go," said Daniel. "There's a lot still out there. We want to keep going on. We've got a week off, then we have to focus on Kansas and then whoever comes up in the Big 12 South."
Austen Arnaud registered 326 yards on 36-of-54 passing and two interceptions. Alexander Robinson led the Cyclones (2-9, 0-7) on the ground with 11 carries and 59 yards. Darius Darks had eight catches for 59 yards, and Derrick Catlett caught six balls for 69 yards, but the Cyclones lost their ninth straight game.
"It hurts to lose. You look at this conference up and down and the Big 12 is just stacked this year," said Arnaud. "We all can fight and we all can put up points. To see where this conference is at this year compared to others is mind blowing."
Missouri outgained the Cyclones 479-444, but Iowa State posted 25 first downs to the Tigers' 24.
The Tigers' opening drive was 11 plays, 59 yards, capped by a three- yard touchdown pass from Daniel to Tommy Saunders with 9:48 left.
Derrick Washington took a direct snap and gave Missouri its second score with a two-yard run with 14:28 remaining in the second quarter as the Tigers opened a 14-0 lead. The 80-yard drive used 17 plays in 6:29.
Following a Cyclones interception, Missouri got one of its own when William Moore returned the theft 17 yards for a score with 9:47 left in the first half, and the Tigers led 21-0
With 5:02 remaining in the half, Iowa State got on the board with a one-yard touchdown pass from Arnaud to tight end Patrick Neal. The score closed an 11 play, 73-yard drive.
The Tigers answered 51 seconds later with a 52-yard scoring run by Washington. Missouri led 28-7 with 4:11 remaining in the second quarter.
The first half scoring concluded with Jeff Wolfert's 30-yard field goal to send the teams into the locker room with Missouri leading 31-7.
The Cyclones got on the board first in the third quarter with a 47-yard field goal by Grant Mahoney.
Iowa State got the ball back with a fumble recovery at its own 10-yard line. The Cyclones marched down the field, but stalled the Missouri 21. Mahoney split the uprights from 38 yards out with 6:08 remaining in the third quarter to get within 18 points.
The Tigers made the score 38-13 on a six-play, 65-yard drive with a 43-yard completion from Daniel to Maclin with 4:05 left in the third quarter.
Nine seconds into the fourth quarter, Iowa State got a touchdown on a 25-yard completion from Arnaud to Collin Franklin, but Jackson made the score 45-20 with a two-yard run with 13:03 left in the game. It took only 1:40 to drive 58 yards on five plays.
The Cyclones drove to the Missouri two-yard line before the Tigers' Carl Gettis intercepted an Arnaud pass in the end zone and returned the pick 27 yards. Missouri scored on Jackson's six-yard scamper with 3:23 remaining.
Arnaud's 36 completions set a school record...The Tigers own a 58-34-9 series lead over Iowa State, including wins in five of the last six meetings...Daniel completed his first 16 pass attempts, including a touchdown, before throwing an incompletion...Missouri's Andrew Jones had seven receptions for 61 yards...Saunders caught seven passes for 38 yards and Jared Perry finished with four catches for 74 yards.
