Final Score: Iowa 17, Iowa State 5
Iowa City, IA (Sports Network) - Shonn Greene gained 120 yards on 20 carries and scored a touchdown to pace the Iowa Hawkeyes in a 17-5 victory over the Iowa State Cyclones at Kinnick Stadium.
Greene's performance certainly came in handy, as Iowa (3-0) quarterback Ricky Stanzi completed a mere 5-of-14 pass attempts for just 95 yards in the contest, including two interceptions.
Austen Arnaud went 21-of-34 for 224 yards to lead Iowa State (2-1), but a pair of costly interceptions prevented the signal caller from putting his team in a position to win.
The Hawkeyes struck first, as Trent Mossbrucker connected on a 26-yard field goal early in the first period of play.
The Cyclones responded with a field goal of their own, a 43-yard kick from Grant Mahoney to tie the contest at three apiece late in the third quarter.
A five-yard touchdown scamper by Greene gave the Hawkeyes a 10-3 lead early in the final period of play.
Iowa added to its advantage midway through the final frame, as Andy Brodell returned a punt 81 yards for a score to give the Hawkeyes a 17-3 lead.
With under a minute remaining in the contest, Iowa State notched a safety, but the two points only changed the score, not the outcome.
