Final Score: Michigan State 23, Notre Dame 7
East Lansing, MI (Sports Network) - Javon Ringer piled up 201 rushing yards and two touchdowns, as the Michigan State Spartans knocked off the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, 23-7, at Spartan Stadium.
With Ringer carrying a heavy workload (39 carries), Brian Hoyer's 143 passing yards were enough to get the job done for MSU (3-1). Kicker Brett Swenson was 3-for-3 on field goals.
Jimmy Clausen completed 24-of-41 passes for 242 yards and a TD for Notre Dame (2-1), but he also threw two costly interceptions.
Swenson opened up the scoring with a 45-yard field goal at the 11:14 mark of the opening quarter.
Ringer gave the Spartans a 10-0 lead on a one-yard touchdown plunge with 3:28 remaining in the first half.
Swenson's 26-yarder with 5:32 remaining in the third quarter pushed MSU's lead to 13-0.
But Clausen connected with Michael Floyd for a 26-yard touchdown pass early in the fourth quarter, making it a 13-7 game.
From there, however, it was all Michigan State. Swenson added a 23-yarder with nine minutes to play, then Ringer gained 77 yards on seven carries in MSU's final drive, and he scored on a one-yard run.
The Irish had virtually no running game, as they finished with just 16 yards (0.7 ypc) as a team.
