Colorado Springs, CO (Sports Network) - Jarod Bryant ran for 101 yards and a touchdown to help lead the Navy Midshipmen to a 33-27 victory over the Air Force Falcons at Falcon Stadium.
Eric Kettani added 75 yards on the ground in the win for Navy (4-2) as the middies went in search of their sixth straight Commander-in-Chief's Trophy, an annual competition between the three service academies (Army).
Shea Smith completed 8-of-12 pass attempts for 128 yards and a touchdown for the Falcons (3-2), but the signal-caller left in the fourth quarter after becoming ill on the sidelines.
A 35-yard field goal from Matt Harmon put the Midshipmen ahead 3-0 midway through the first period of play.
Navy found the end zone minutes later, as Blake Carter returned a block punt 25 yards to give the Midshipmen a 10-0 advantage.
The Falcons responded late in the frame, with Ryan Harrison converting a 24- yard field goal and then tying the contest on a two-yard plunge by Smith.
Harrison gave Air Force its first lead of the day with a 23-yard kick late in the second quarter.
But the Midshipmen converted a field goal of their own from 48 yards out as time expired in the half to tie things up at 13 apiece.
Bryant found the end zone on a three-yard scamper early in the third period to give Navy a 20-13 advantage.
Air Force tied the contest midway through the period with a 19-yard toss from Smith to Kyle Halderman.
A 44-yard kick from Harmon minutes later gave Navy a 23-20 advantage.
Harmon added a 32-yard field goal early in the fourth to extend the Navy advantage to 26-20.
Carter again made his presence felt for the Navy defense as he blocked a Harrison punt early in the fourth and Bobby Doyle recovered in the end zone for yet another Midshipmen score.
The Falcons added a touchdown late in the frame on a two-yard run by Asher Clark but Navy was able to hold on for the six-point victory.
Navy, which entered the week ranked second in the nation in rushing with an average of 335 ypg, finished with 206 yards while the Falcons (6th nationally with 281.8 ypg) produced 227 yards on 56 attempts.
