NCAA Game Summary - Western Michigan at Temple

(Saturday, September 27th)

Final Score: Western Michigan 7, Temple 3

Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) - Tim Hiller's 30-yard touchdown pass to Juan Nunez proved to be all that Western Michigan needed as it slipped by the Temple Owls, 7-3, in non-conference play at Lincoln Financial Field.

Winners of four straight after dropping the opener against Nebraska, the Broncos (4-1) picked up the victory despite generating a mere 36 yards rushing on 26 attempts. Hiller finished the contest 26-of-42 for 252 yards and an interception.

Losers of four in a row since defeating Army in the season opener, the Owls (1-4) offense was limited to just 196 yards on 60 plays and failed to score on either of their two possessions inside the red zone. Quarterback Chester Stewart converted 10-of-20 passing for just 60 yards, with one of those completions going for 21 yards alone.

Temple scored the first points of the game in the opening quarter, capping an 11-play, 37-yard drive with a 45-yard field goal by Jake Brownell. While it was a good start for Brownell, he ended up missing his next two attempts on the day from 39 and 28 yards out.

The 3-0 lead for the Owls stood up through the first half and for much of the third quarter, until Nunez made it into the end zone for WMU to finish off a lengthy 77-yard drive.

Both teams converted only 4-of-16 on third down on the afternoon and combined for 17 punts.
