NCAA Game Summary - Southern Miss at UCF (Saturday, October 13) Final Score: UCF 38, Southern Miss 31 (2OT) Orlando, FL (Sports Network) - Latavius Murray scored both of his touchdowns in overtime as the UCF Knights downed the Southern Miss Golden Eagles in double overtime to secure a Conference USA victory at Bright House Networks Stadium. Storm Johnson rushed for 94 yards and Murray added 52 for UCF (4-2, 2-0 C-USA). Blake Bortles completed 27-of-40 passes for 272 yards and scored two touchdowns on the ground. J.J. Worton caught eight passes for 117 yards as the Knights won back-to-back games for the first time this season. Anthony Alford completed 14-of-27 pass attempts for 165 yards but also threw a pair of interceptions for Southern Miss (0-6, 0-2). Alford also had 71 yards rushing and a pair of touchdowns on the ground. Jalen Richard had 87 yards rushing and two scores. Bortles scored from a yard out to put an end to a 15-play, 93-yard drive that took 7:35 off the clock on UCF's first possession. Shawn Moffitt nailed a 29-yard field goal early in the second quarter to give UCF a 10-0 advantage. Southern Miss got its first score of the game midway through the second quarter on a 16-yard rushing touchdown from Alford. Bortles scored again on a one-yard touchdown run just before the half to give UCF a 17-7 lead going into the break. A 15-yard rushing touchdown from Richard midway through the third quarter brought the Golden Eagles to within a field goal, 17-14. Johnson scored on a 32-yard touchdown run early in the fourth quarter to put UCF back up 10, 24-14. The Golden Eagles wouldn't go quietly however as Richard scored on a 14-yard touchdown run a little more than three minutes later. Southern Miss then got a 27-yard field goal from Corey Acosta with four seconds left in regulation to tie the game, 24-24, and send it to overtime. The Golden Eagles got the ball first in overtime and scored on a two-yard rushing touchdown from Alford. UCF answered with a 10-yard rushing touchdown from Murray sending it to a second overtime. Murray scored again, this time from four yards out, and Southern Miss failed to score on its next possession giving the Knights the win. 10/14 00:45:53 ET |
