San Antonio, TX (Sports Network) - Reid Koenen led the way with 23 points as the Texas State Bobcats outlasted the Texas-San Antonio Roadrunners in overtime, 81-78, in a Western Athletic Conference battle at the Convocation Center.
For the Bobcats (5-14, 1-6 WAC), Corey Stern posted a double-double with 18 points and 13 rebounds, Joel Wright added 16 points, Phil Hawkins finished with 13 points and Wesley Davis chipped in with 10 points.
Michael Hale III led all scorers with 31 points for the Roadrunners (4-13, 0-7), while Kannon Burrage finished with 27 points and Edrico McGregor pulled down 10 rebounds.
Texas State shot 48.3 percent from the field in the first half, including 6- of-14 from beyond the 3-point arc, as it took a 39-36 lead into the break. UTSA shot 43.3 percent from the field in the opening frame but made just 3- of-13 from 3-point range.
The Bobcats trailed for most of the second half and were still down four with 2:12 remaining, but they scored the last four points of regulation, including the game-tying layup by Hawkins with 1:29 left. Neither team could put the game away down the stretch as the contest went to overtime.
In the extra session, the Bobcats again trailed by four late in the contest, 76-72, but they ended on a 9-2 run to pull out the overtime victory and grab their first win in conference play.
UTSA held the edge in points in the paint, 26-18. and in rebounds, 42-36.
