Final Score: Rutgers 68, Rider 56
Piscataway, NJ (Sports Network) - Dane Miller scored 17 of his team-best 18 points in the second half as Rutgers pulled away late for a 68-56 victory over Rider on Friday.
Miller added five assists for the Scarlet Knights (9-2), who led by just three points with five minutes left before embarking on a 14-3 run that put the contest out of reach. Eli Carter contributed 15 points and Kadeem Jack finished with 12 on 6-of-7 shooting to help Rutgers notch its fifth straight win.
Rider trailed 48-40 nearing the midway mark of the second half, but used a 7-2 spurt ignited by a Zedric Sadler 3-pointer to cut its deficit down to three. It remained a one-possession game after the Broncs' Daniel Stewart hit two free throws to make the score 52-49 with 5:24 left, but Rutgers would take over from there.
Carter netted the first four points of the deciding run, and a Miller layup in transition with 2:44 remaining extended the margin to 60-49.
A basket and free throw from Nurideen Lindsey on the ensuing possession brought Rider within 60-52, but the Knights answered with six consecutive points to retake a double-digit advantage with under a minute to go.
Stewart went 14-of-14 from the foul line en route to a game-high 20 points, while Anthony Myles ended with 14 points for Rider (6-7).
