NCAA Game Summary - Seton Hall at Pittsburgh
(Monday, February 4th)
Final Score: (23) Pittsburgh 56, Seton Hall 46
Pittsburgh, PA (Sports Network) - Lamar Patterson had 12 points and 10 rebounds in No. 23 Pittsburgh's 56-46 win over Seton Hall.
Steven Adams added eight points and a career-high 15 boards for the Panthers (19-5, 7-4 Big East), who have won six of their last seven games and returned to the national rankings after a victory over Syracuse on Saturday.
"There's not a lot of teams with 19 wins in the country, that's first and foremost," Pitt head coach Jamie Dixon said of the ugly win. "You've got to find different ways. We're not going to win every game the same way."
Fuquan Edwin tallied half (23) of his team's points as the Pirates (13-10, 2-8), dropped their fourth in a row and lost for the eighth time in their last nine contests.
"I'm kind of proud of our guys and how they've been able to shuffle around and do different things," Seton Hall head coach Kevin Willard said. "I thought other guys stepped up and kept fighting."
A pair of Kyle Smith free throws pulled Seton Hall within 42-41, but Pitt closed the tilt on a 14-5 run to seal the win.
Cameron Wright netted the first six points of the surge and two Tray Woodall free throws with 1:07 left gave the hosts their first double-digit advantage of the tilt at 54-43.
Earlier, the Panthers jumped out to a 10-3 start before the Pirates fought back to tie the contest at 24-24 heading into the break.
Neither team shot the ball well. Pitt finished at 34.8 percent (16-of-46), while Seton Hall was 33.3 percent (14-of-42) from the floor.
"This game was just the same as any Big East game," said Woodall. "It was a typical Big East game. We didn't shoot the ball well. It was one of our worst shooting games of the season. Seton Hall did a good job. We have to give them credit."
Nine of the 10 Panther players who played got into the scoring column ... Woodall netted 11 points ... No other Seton Hall player, other than Edwin, scored more than six points.
