Columbia, SC (Sports Network) - Jarnell Stokes recorded a double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds as the Tennessee Volunteers logged a 66-61 win over the South Carolina Gamecocks in an SEC battle at Colonial Life Arena.
Stokes, who was guilty of six turnovers, also blocked four shots for the Vols (12-10, 4-6 SEC) as they snapped a two-game slide. Trae Golden added 16 points off the bench for the visitors as they picked up their first road win of the campaign.
The Gamecocks (12-11, 2-8), losers of four straight and six of the last seven games, were paced by Michael Carrera who posted 18 points and a game-high 11 rebounds, followed by Brian Richardson with 17 points, although the latter shot just 2-of-7 behind the 3-point line.
South Carolina led by as many as three points in the first half, yet even with the visitors missing all five chances on the perimeter in the period, the 32-29 halftime score was still in favor of Tennessee.
In the second half USC missed all but one of its 10 chances behind the 3-point line, allowing the Vols to take control down the stretch and capture the five- point victory.
Tennessee, which was guilty of 18 turnovers during a game that experienced 12 ties and 16 lead changes, outscored the hosts at the charity stripe, 27-18.
