NCAA Game Summary - Brown at Yale
(Saturday, January 26)
Final Score: Yale 76, Brown 64 (OT)
New Haven, CT (Sports Network) - Austin Morgan scored nine of his 16 points in the extra session to push the Yale Bulldogs to a thrilling, 76-64, overtime victory over the Brown Bears in an Ivy League bout at the John J. Lee Amphitheater.
Justin Sears scored a game-high 18 points off the bench for Yale (7-12, 1-1 Ivy) to help it to its first conference win of the season.
Matt Sullivan and Cedric Kuakumensah netted 13 points apiece for Brown (7-9, 1-1), while Tucker Halpern and Rafael Maia both finished with 10 points each. Sullivan also pulled down seven rebounds and swiped four steals, but it was not enough to keep the Bears perfect in Ivy League action.
Brown was not in rhythm early on and shot just 29.2 percent from the field while committing 10 turnovers in the opening 20 minutes. The Bulldogs shot 40 percent from the floor to take a 31-21 lead into the intermission.
Sullivan scored 11 points in the second half as the Bears heated up to knock down 48 percent of their field goal tries including 5-of-9 from 3-point range. Yale watched its advantage on the scoreboard slowly diminish while it converted only 35.7 percent of its field goals after the break.
With just under a minute remaining in regulation, Halpern was sent to the free throw line with Brown trailing the Bears, 58-56. He came up clutch and converted both his attempts at the charity stripe to even the score. Neither side managed to produce any more points before the buzzer, creating a need for an extra session.
Morgan connected on a 3-pointer to tally the first points of the overtime period and Yale never surrendered the lead the rest of the way.
These schools squared off last Saturday at Brown in a contest the Bears won, 65-51, in regulation.
