Las Vegas, NV (Sports Network) - A.J. Davis scored a game-high 18 points off the bench to help the James Madison Dukes overcome a double-digit second-half deficit to defeat the San Jose State Spartans, 77-68, as part of the Vegas Holiday Hoops event at MGM Grand Garden Arena.
Rayshawn Goins tallied 13 points and nine rebounds for JMU (5-6), while Devon Moore added 12 points and seven assists. Charles Cooke netted 11 points for the Dukes, who have won four of their last five.
LaVanne Pennington led the way with 16 points for SJSU (5-5), while D.J. Brown registered 15 points and eight assists. Xavier Jones and David Andoh chipped in 11 points apiece in the setback.
The Spartans shot just 37.1 percent from the floor in the first half, but they were able to get out to a 34-24 lead at intermission by forcing JMU into a lowly 25.8 percent field goal shooting.
The Dukes' fortunes changed in a hurry after the break, as they were able to sprint past SJSU in the second half by draining an astounding 18-of-23 field goal attempts (.783), including all seven of its shots from 3-point range.
JMU took very good care of the basketball, turning it over just seven times.
