Kingston, RI (Sports Network) - Nikola Malesevic tallied 22 points for Rhode Island as the Rams defeated the Georgia State Panthers, 65-60, in non- conference play at the Ryan Center.
Malesevic shot 7-of-12 from the field, adding nine rebounds for the Rams (4-7) who earned their fourth win in six games. Xavier Munford contributed 17 points and two blocked shots, while Andre Malone scored seven points and pulled down seven rebounds.
R.J. Hunter's 23-point performance for the Panthers (5-7) was spoiled by the team's third consecutive loss. Hunter was 7-of-11 from the field and grabbed six rebounds. Devonta White and Manny Atkins scored 14 points, the latter pulling down nine rebounds and recording three steals.
Rhode Island took a 27-24 lead into the break after holding the Panthers to 34.8 percent shooting from the floor. The Rams made just 36.0 percent of their shot attempts over the first 20 minutes of action.
The Rams shot 54.5 percent from the field in the second half and outscored Georgia State 38-36 to secure the victory.
URI led the entire game and shot 44.7 percent from the field, while forcing Georgia State into shooting just 39.6 percent. The visitors also shot just 4 of-17 beyond the arc and came away with five offensive rebounds in the setback.
