NCAA Game Summary - SMU at Texas State

San Marcos, TX (Sports Network) - Nick Russell poured in 25 points and Jalen Jones had 24 as well for the SMU Mustangs who bested the Texas State Bobcats 78-75 at Strahan Coliseum.
Jones also led SMU (3-0) with eight rebounds while Ryan Manuel chipped in 14 points. The win keeps the Mustangs unbeaten in its first season under head coach Larry Brown.
Joel Wright finished with 28 points for Texas State (2-1) which lost for the first time this season. Wesley Davis also got into double figures with 14 points.
SMU led 39-32 at the break after shooting well from the field (13-of-25) in the first half. On the other side Texas State connected on only 11-of-33 shot attempts but a 12-6 advantage in points from 3-point range kept the Bobcats within striking distance.
The Mustangs led by as many as 11 points in the second half but had their lead cut to just a point, 76-75, with 50 seconds remaining on a layup from Texas State's Darius Richardson.
The Bobcats had a chance to take the lead but Wright missed a jumpshot with eight seconds remaining. Russell secured the rebound and was fouled sending him to the line where he sank both free throws. On the final posession a 3-point attempt from Phil Hawkins was off the mark giving SMU the win.
SMU finished with 11 blocked shots led by Cannen Cunnginham who had four. The Mustangs also overcame a game-high 17 turnovers to pick up the win.
