Villanova G Wayns entering NBA Draft

Villanova, PA (Sports Network) - Villanova guard Maalik Wayns is officially giving up his senior year of eligibility to enter the NBA Draft, saying on Thursday that it has been a lifelong dream to go pro.

Wayns had said March 14 that he would enter the draft, but was keeping the option open to return to Villanova, where he scored 1,191 points in 95 career games.

He no longer is.

"The NBA has been a lifelong dream of mine and I have decided now is the time to pursue it," Wayns said. "I loved my three years at Villanova. I had the best teammates, coaches and professors anybody could ask for. I will always be a Wildcat."

Wayns led the Wildcats in scoring this past season at 17.6 points per game and was a second team All-Big East selection.

Villanova head coach Jay Wright said he supports the guard's decision and will work closely with him leading up to the draft.
