Mt. Pleasant, MI (Sports Network) - Derek Jackson scored 19 points, leading four starters in double figures, as Central Michigan posted a 74-64 win over Northern Illinois in Mid-American Conference play at McGuirk Arena.
Austin McBroom and Trey Zeigler both tallied 14 points for the Chippewas (9-19, 4-10 MAC), followed by Andre Coimbra with 10 points as they snapped a two-game slide.
The Huskies (3-24, 2-12), losers of five in a row and 11 of the last 12 outings, were paced by Abdel Nader with a game-high 24 points to go along with eight rebounds, three assists and three steals on the afternoon. Kevin Gray added 13 points and Aksel Bolin 10 before fouling out.
NIU led by three points at the 14:48 mark of the first half, but the visitors ended up shooting just 40.0 percent from the floor in the period, compared to 52.0 percent for the Chippewas as the home team posted a 39-30 advantage at the break.
In the second half CMU made a total of just eight field goals, but thanks to 17-of-29 shooting at the free-throw line the hosts were able to still secure the double-digit win.
Northern Illinois finished the afternoon shooting only 36.4 percent from the field and was beaten on the glass, 40-34.
