NCAA Game Summary - Connecticut at Villanova
(Monday, February 20th)
Final Score: Connecticut 73, Villanova 70 (OT)
Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) - After calling out his teammates for their poor play in Saturday's loss to Marquette, Shabazz Napier's actions spoke louder than his words at the conclusion of Monday's contest against Villanova.
Napier hurried up the floor after Ty Johnson tied the contest with a layup, pulled up in front of the Villanova logo at midcourt and drained the game- winning three-pointer with 0.6 seconds remaining in overtime as Connecticut downed Villanova, 73-70.
Johnson threw the ensuing inbounds pass out-of-bounds.
Jeremy Lamb netted 10 of his career-high 32 points in the extra session for UConn (17-10, 7-8 Big East), which had lost three of its last four games coming in. Napier finished with six points to go with four assists.
Dominic Cheek had 23 points for Villanova (11-16, 4-11), which has lost three straight games and six of its last seven.
Mouphtaou Yarou made a pair of free throws to give the Wildcats a 60-58 lead with 2:18 to play in regulation, but Alex Oriakhi tied the game with 23 seconds left after an offensive rebound and putback.
JayVaughn Pinkston's jumper with five seconds to play didn't fall, forcing overtime.
As the Huskies were in the midst of a 7:26 scoring drought, Villanova jumped out to a commanding 26-8 lead with 8:18 remaining in the first stanza. But the Huskies responded and outscored the Wildcats 22-4 the rest of the way to tie the contest at 30 heading into the locker room.
