Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) - Fran Dougherty caught a perfect pass from Miles Cartwright near the basket and put in the winning layup with 1.5 seconds left in overtime, giving Penn a 61-59 victory over Columbia at the Palestra.
Zack Rosen scored 14 and Steve Rennard had 13 for the Quakers (15-11, 7-2 Ivy League), who have won three in a row.
Meiko Lyes had 17 points and Mark Cisco 12 for the Lions (14-12, 3-7), who have lost three straight. Alex Rosenberg scored 10 in a losing cause. Brian Barbour had eight assists.
Penn scored the game's first 10 points, but then fell behind 24-21 at the half. It was tight throughout the second half, and Rosen's free throw in the closing seconds tied the game at 54, necessitating the extra session.
Cartwright's three-ball expanded Penn to a 59-54 lead, but Chris Crockett nailed a three and two free throws from Barbour in the final five seconds evened the game to set up the wild finish.
Penn shot 50 percent from the field compared to 40 percent for Columbia.
