Nacogdoches, TX (Sports Network) - Taylor Smith paced four teammates in double figures with 16 points to help lead the Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks past the High Point Panthers 69-62 in a BracketBusters bout at Johnson Coliseum.
Darius Gardner scored 15 points for Stephen F. Austin (15-11) while Antonio Bostic and Desmond Haymon tallied 11 apiece. Bostic also handed out 10 assists for the Lumberjacks, who have won three of four.
Nick Barbour led all scorers with 23 points and Shay Shine contributed 21 points and six assists for High Point (11-17), which has lost two of three.
Neither team shot particularly well in the first half, with Stephen F. Austin making 41.9 percent of its field goals and High Point connecting on 36 percent of its shots overall. The Lumberjacks took a 28-24 lead into halftime.
The Lumberjacks improved their field goal shooting to 56 percent after the break. High Point was able to cut the deficit to just one, 63-62, with 2:17 remaining on a Nick Barbour three-pointer, but it would never take the lead.
Stephen F. Austin dominated down low, outscoring High Point 30-2 in the paint.
