NCAA Game Summary - Fordham at Duquesne
(Wednesday, February 15th)
Final Score: Duquesne 77, Fordham 67
Pittsburgh, PA (Sports Network) - B.J. Monteiro scored 23 of his career-high 30 points in the first half to pace Duquesne to a 77-67 win over Fordham at the Palumbo Center.
T.J. McConnell and Sean Johnson each added 13 points for the Dukes (15-10, 6-5 A-10), who have won three of their last four games heading into a Saturday afternoon matchup against Temple in Philadelphia.
The win, Duquesne's fourth in a row over Fordham, was made possible in part to solid first-half defense. The Dukes limited the Rams to 34.3 percent shooting in the first 20 minutes.
Chris Gaston had 23 points and 11 rebounds for Fordham (9-15, 2-9), which dropped its fourth straight game. Alberto Estwick added 11 points, while Branden Frazier and Bryan Smith both scored 10.
The Dukes jumped out to a 15-2 lead and were ahead 46-29 at the half, but then saw the Rams come roaring back. Frazier's layup at the 11:24 mark made it a 57-56 game, but the visitors would get no closer as Monteiro scored four quick points. Fordham cut it to three before McConnell responded with three-pointers around a Gaston free throw to give Duquesne a 69-61 cushion with 6:15 to go.
Fordham lost despite holding a 52-36 rebounding advantage. The Rams received 10 rebounds from Kervin Bristol.
