NCAA Game Summary - DePaul at Connecticut
(Wednesday, February 15th)
Final Score: Connecticut 80, DePaul 54
Storrs, CT (Sports Network) - Jeremy Lamb posted 18 points as Connecticut used a sharp-shooting second half to rout DePaul, 80-54, at Gampel Pavilion.
Shabazz Napier totaled 14 points and 11 assists, while Alex Oriakhi tallied 14 points and 10 rebounds for the Huskies (16-9, 6-7 Big East), who bounced back from a two-game skid. Andre Drummond scored 15 and had nine rebounds.
Connecticut men's head basketball coach Jim Calhoun didn't coach Wednesday and will miss at least two more games as he receives treatment for spinal stenosis. He's been out four straight contests and will miss games Saturday against Marquette and Monday at Villanova. UConn associate head coach George Blaney, who has taken Calhoun's place on the sideline since he began his leave of absence February 3, will continue in that capacity.
Jeremiah Kelly scored 16 and Cleveland Melvin had 11 for the Blue Demons (11-14, 2-11), who lost their fifth in a row.
The Huskies, who lead the all-time series with DePaul 7-1, went 19-of-30 shooting in the second half, this after UConn bolted to a 34-24 halftime lead. The hosts shot just 35.9 percent in the opening 20 minutes, but limited the visitors to 38.6 percent for the entire game.
Ryan Boatright and Napier each hit three-pointers to cap a game-opening 8-0 run, and the Huskies never trailed. They were up by double digits for the length of the second half.
