Flagstaff, AZ (Sports Network) - Kenny McGowen was sensational as he scored 37 points to lead the Idaho State Bengals to a 79-73 victory over the Northern Arizona Lumberjacks in Big Sky Conference action at the Rolle Activity Center.
Sherrod Baldwin had 13 points for Idaho State (9-16, 7-6 Big Sky) as it snapped a two-game losing streak. Melvin Morgan netted 11 points and handed out five assists while Andre Hatchett chipped in 10 points. Hatchett, Abner Moreira, and Jakub Kusmieruk all grabbed seven rebounds apiece.
Shayar Lee paced the Lumberjacks (5-21, 1-13) with 25 points. Jermaine Calvin scored 15 points while Jermaine Bishop tallied 12 points and pulled down seven boards. Josh Wilson dished out a game-high six assists as NAU lost its 13th game in a row.
The Bengals took a 36-34 lead into halftime after they made 6-of-14 from beyond the arc and 6-of-6 from the charity stripe in the opening period. NAU trailed at the break despite shooting 54.6 percent from the field in the first half.
The Lumberjacks cooled off to 42.9 percent shooting from the floor in the second half. Idaho State extended its lead by making 53.6 percent of its field goals in the final 20 minutes.
The Bengals were deadly from deep range as they finished the game 11-of-20 on their three-point field goal attempts. NAU went 3-of-15 from beyond the arc in the contest.
