Houston, TX (Sports Network) - Arsalan Kazemi recorded a double-double of 11 points and 10 rebounds to help the Rice Owls to a 43-39 decision over the S-M- U Mustangs in Conference USA action at Tudor Fieldhouse.
Tamir Jackson scored a game-high 12 points for Rice (15-11, 6-5 C-USA), as it won its second game in a row.
Shawn Williams paced SMU (11-14, 2-8) with 11 points and eight rebounds.
The Owls took a 25-19 lead into halftime after it shot 38.5 percent from the floor including 4-of-9 from three-point range in the opening period. SMU made just 33.3 percent of its field goals in the first half.
Both sides struggled after the break as Rice connected on 5-of-20 from the floor and the Mustangs were only slightly better with a 31.6 percent accuracy rate from the field. The Owls led by 11 with 12:48 remaining in the contest, but saw their lead shrink after they did not make a field goal in the final 9:48.
Rice held a slight 33-29 advantage in the rebounding battle.
