Denton, TX (Sports Network) - Marcos Knight finished with 19 points to lead the Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders over the North Texas Mean Green, 68-66, in a Sun Belt Conference bout at the UNT Coliseum.
For the Blue Raiders (21-3, 10-0 SBC), LaRon Dendy finished with 12 points and Raymond Cintron added 10 points.
The Mean Green (13-10, 6-4) were led by Alzee Williams with 29 points, while Tony Mitchell registered a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds.
Middle Tennessee shot 50 percent from the field in the opening period, including 4-of-11 from three-point range. North Texas managed just 33.3 percent from the field and 2-of-6 from three-point range. The Blue Raiders finished the half on a 10-3 run and took a 36-26 lead into halftime.
After the break, Middle Tennessee again shot 50 percent from the field, but missed its only three-point attempt in the half. North Texas improved to 46.4 percent shooting as it attempted a comeback. After trailing by 15 with 11:21 to play, the Mean Green went on a 17-3 run to cut their deficit to a single point, 58-57. The Blue Raiders responded with six straight points to push their lead back to seven. North Texas had several chances to tie or take the lead in the final minute but missed three straight shots and the Blue Raiders held on for their 13th win in their last 14 contests and remained perfect in conference play.
Middle Tennessee outscored North Texas in the paint, 30-22. Neither team took care of the ball well, with the Blue Raiders committing 16 turnovers and the Mean Green committing 17.
