Springfield, MO (Sports Network) - Kyle Weems posted a double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds as the Missouri State Bears took down the Northern Iowa Panthers, 63-51, in a Missouri Valley Conference tilt at JHQ Arena.
For the Bears (13-10, 6-5 MVC), Anthony Downing added 16 points, Jarmar Gulley pulled down 10 rebounds and Michael Bizoukas dished out seven assists.
Seth Tuttle led the Panthers (14-9, 4-7) with nine points.
After trailing early 11-0, Missouri used a 16-2 run over seven and half minutes to go ahead 26-13 and took a 34-24 advantage into halftime. MSU shot 44.8 percent from the field in the first half and were able to hold UNI to just 35.7 percent.
Neither team shot the ball well after the break, with the Bears making just 38.5 percent of their field goals and the Panthers shooting a little better at 40 percent. MSU maintained a comfortable lead for the entire second half, with UNI only getting as close as nine, as the Bears handed the Panthers their fourth loss in their last five games.
The Bears outscored the Panthers in the paint, 30-22, and outrebounded them 38-32.
