Pocatello, ID (Sports Network) - Chase Grabau scored 30 points as the Idaho State Bengals outlasted the Northern Colorado Bears in double overtime, 99-94, in a Big Sky Conference thriller at Holt Arena.
For the Bengals (6-14, 4-4 Big Sky), Melvin Morgan scored 22 points and Kenny McGowen chipped in 18 points and seven assists.
The Bears (6-13, 3-5) were led by Tevin Svihovec with 30 points, while Emmanuel Addo finished with 28 points and a game-high eight rebounds. Elliott Lloyd finished with 16 points.
Both teams shot very well to start the game. Idaho State connected on 53.9 percent of their first half field goals, including 6-of-12 from three-point range. Northern Colorado shot 57.9 percent and made 4-of-8 three-pointers in the opening period. The Bears took a 38-35 lead into halftime.
The teams continued to shoot well after the break The Bengals hit on 52.4 percent of their field goals, including 7-of-11 from three-point range. The Bears made 50 percent of their field goals, including 4-of-10 three-pointers. The teams traded leads throughout the half. After Idaho State took a 72-68 lead with little over a minute to play in regulation, Lloyd drained a three- pointer to cut the lead to one, then, after a turnover by the Bengals, Addo had a chance to win it on the free-throw line, but could only make one of two free-throws with 10 seconds left to tie it at 72-72 and send it to overtime.
In the first overtime, Idaho State jumped ahead and held a five-point lead, 80-75, halfway through the extra period. Northern Colorado answered with an 11-3 run to go ahead by three, 86-83, but a three-point play by the Bengals with 29 seconds left tied the contest, and after Elliot missed a three-pointer at the buzzer, the teams went to double-overtime.
In the second overtime, the Bengals jumped ahead by five midway through the session, and although the Bears were able to cut it to one with 49 seconds to play, the Bengals were able to hold on for their third win in four tries.
Idaho State finished the contest with 20 assists to 17 turnovers. The Bears had just nine assists to go along with 26 turnovers.
