Dayton, OH (Sports Network) - Julius Mays delivered a game-high 33 points as the Wright State Raiders took care of the Illinois-Chicago Flames, 69-63, in Horizon League action at the Wright State Nutter Center.
Mays connected on 19-of-20 shots at the free-throw line for the Raiders (10-12, 5-5 HL) as they snapped a three-game slide. Also scoring in double figures for the hosts were Reggie Arceneaux and Johann Mpondo with 10 points apiece.
The Flames (6-14, 2-8), losers of three straight and six of the last seven, were led by Marc Brown with 17 points, Gary Talton 14 and Darrin Williams 11 points and eight rebounds before picking up his fifth personal foul of the night.
UIC shot just 1-of-7 from three-point range in the first half, compared to the Raiders who converted 6-of-10 on the perimeter in taking a 42-28 lead at the break.
In the second half Mays and the Raiders feasted at the free-throw line (18- of-21) as the hosts grabbed the six-point win.
The Flames made all but one of their 19 free-throw attempts, but still they were outscored by 10 at the line.
