Las Vegas, NV (Sports Network) - Cor-J Cox connected on two foul shots with a minute remaining in the second overtime to give the Mississippi Valley State Delta Devils a thrilling, 90-89 victory over the Tennessee State Tigers as part of the Las Vegas Invitational at Orleans Arena.
Cox finished with 18 points for MVSU (1-4), while Paul Crosby led the way with 22 points. Terrence Joyner helped out with 19 points, while Kevin Burwell tallied 14 points.
Jordan Cyphers posted 22 points for Tennessee State (2-4), while Patrick Miller and Robert Covington finished with 18 points and seven rebounds apiece. Wil Peters chipped in with 14 points in the loss.
The Delta Devils went into the break with a 40-39 lead after posting a 48.3 percent shooting effort, which included a 6-of-11 clip from long range.
Tennessee State trailed by as many as nine points with under five minutes remaining in regulation, but the Tigers clawed their way back, tying the game at 76 apiece and sending the matchup into overtime.
The Delta Devils were chasing the Tigers in the first extra session, but they were able to send the contest into another overtime with two clutch free throws with no time remaining on the clock.
Once again MVSU was behind, but the team used free throws from Cox to earn the thrilling victory.
Mississippi Valley State will move on to play Cal Poly in consolation round action on Saturday.
