Macon, GA (Sports Network) - Griffan Callahan scored a game-high 21 points to lift South Dakota State over Sam Houston State in the second round of the CBE Classic.
Nate Wolters added 18 points and six rebounds in the win for the Jackrabbits (3-2).
Konner Tucker led the Bearkats (1-3) with 14 points, while Darius Gatson and Michael Holyfield each scored 12 in Sam Houston's third straight loss.
The Bearkats opened the game with a 9-2 run to take the early advantage, but South Dakota scored 10 of the next 12 points to take a 12-11 lead on a couple of Taevaunn Prince free throws with 13:16 left in the first half.
Aaron Thompson quickly hit a jumper to put Sam Houston back on top before a Chad White layup gave South Dakota the lead it would not lose for the rest of the game.
A 9-2 stretch over the final six minutes of the first gave the Jackrabbits a 33-26 lead at the break.
Callahan opened the second with a three to give South Dakota a double-digit lead and Sam Houston answered with a couple of easy buckets to cut the deficit to six.
But South Dakota scored the next 16 points to take a 54-32 lead with 12:08 to go in regulation and never led by less than 10 points for the remainder of the game.
