Lafayette, LA (Sports Network) - J.J. Thomas scored 15 points and pulled down seven rebounds as Louisiana bested Nicholls State 84-57 in the final game of the Beryl Shipley Classic at the Cajundome.
Darnell Jackson scored 12 points on 5-of-8 shooting for the Ragin' Cajuns (3-3) as they cruised to the victory. Kadeem Coleby scored 11 in 21 minutes of action and Darshawn McClellan had 10 off the bench.
Chris Talkington led Nicholls State (1-4) with 17 points and nine rebounds. Trevon Lewis had 13 in the loss.
Louisiana led 36-31 at halftime after is shot 52 percent from the floor. The Colonels kept it close by knocking down 6-of-14 from beyond the arc in the first half.
The Ragin' Cajuns pulled away in the second half as it held Nicholls State to a shooting percentage of 28.6 in the final 20 minutes.
Louisiana won the rebounding battle 38-29 and made 56.3 percent of its three point attempts.
The win gave Louisiana a second place finish in the round robin Beryl Shipley Classic. Nicholls State finished in third place.
